The federal government plans a massive increase in the number of immigrants entering Canada, aiming to see 500,000 people arrive each year by 2025. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser also revealed the new targets today, saying that this step is necessary to ensure Canada's economic prosperity.

This decision comes as Canadian industries face a significant labor shortage, with about one million job vacancies across the country. Additionally, the new plan focuses on increasing the number of immigrants admitted based on their practical skills or experience over the next three years. Ottawa plans a moderate increase in the number of family members admitted to the country, and a decrease in the number of refugees.

Moreover, the new plan comes days after the Canadian Statistics Agency announced that 23 percent of people in the country are immigrants or permanent residents.
