Steve Clark, the Member of Parliament, resigned from his position as Minister of Housing in Ontario.
In a message posted on social media, Clark stated that the housing crisis "requires someone who does not divert attention from the important work that needs to be done."
Clark remains an elected representative for his riding of Leeds and Grenville and the Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.
The resignation comes amid two damning reports that outline a highly flawed process in which greenbelt areas were subdivided for development.
