About 12 children suffering from cancer or other blood disorders, along with their companions, have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan to continue their treatment. More are expected to be evacuated under this initiative.

To facilitate this process, the World Health Organization and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital coordinated with officials from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, the occupied Palestinian territories, and the United States of America.

It is known that the St. Jude Global Alliance is a global consortium of institutes and institutions specializing in assisting children with cancer and other serious diseases.

While the organization welcomes the evacuation of children in need of cancer treatment, it emphasizes the necessity of continuing organized medical evacuations for critical cases of the injured and sick. To achieve this, the organization and St. Jude are committed to facilitating more evacuations as allowed by the patients' health conditions and security circumstances.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the organization, said: "I am relieved that sick children who are in dire need of medical care have escaped the unknown fate that threatened them in Gaza to continue receiving the necessary treatment in Egypt and Jordan.

In 2022, 122 children in the Gaza Strip were diagnosed with cancer, most specifically leukemia. However, these children receive only part of the presumed care for cancer patients within Gaza due to lack of capabilities, and therefore they need to be referred to hospitals in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in Egypt, Israel, and Jordan to receive the rest of the treatment.
