The Brampton Food Bank in Ontario has decided to close its doors to international students amid overwhelming demand that it says it cannot meet.
Chairwoman Catherine Rivera said the Louise Outreach Center in Peel is unable to provide enough food and other supplies to its clients due to the influx of international students who have been coming to the food bank since September.
However, some in the same field criticize the food bank for using stories instead of data to support its decision.
For his part, Jindy Singh, national director of Khalisa Aid, said they should provide service even if they used stories to close their doors to people who have only $688 a month.
Singh also added: "I wonder if they realize how hard life is for international students, some of whom have drowned in debt." This is upsetting.
