Names of 266 Canadian citizens were added to the list of foreign passport holders allowed to leave Gaza with their families on November 10.

This large Canadian contingent was supposed to cross the Egyptian border early in the morning, but new closures at the Rafah border crossing complicate their evacuation process, according to information obtained by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation CBC.

On November 9, 32 people connected to Canada managed to leave the Gaza Strip. A first group of 75 Canadian citizens traveled to Egypt on Tuesday.

Security concerns led to the closure of the Rafah border crossing on Wednesday.

As of its last update on November 9, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that about 550 people are still waiting to leave the Gaza Strip.

Canadian citizens who manage to leave the Palestinian territories via the Rafah border crossing can stay in Egypt for up to three days. Canadian authorities provide them with accommodation and essential necessities during this period.

Palestinian residents in Gaza remain besieged and bombarded by the Israeli army.
