Local Canadian media reported that Ontario residents aged 60 and over will be eligible for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine starting tomorrow, Thursday.
The province also says that Indigenous peoples and their non-Indigenous family members aged 18 and over will also be eligible for a second booster dose at that time.
It is worth mentioning that fourth doses are already available to residents of long-term care homes, front-line workers, and immunocompromised individuals in Ontario.
Plans to expand second booster doses are expected to be announced after the National Advisory Committee on Immunization advised provinces and territories to prepare to roll out fourth doses in the coming weeks.
The committee recommends that provinces prioritize people aged 80 or older and residents in long-term care, and strongly recommends fourth doses for people aged 70 to 79.
For its part, NACI says it is still studying whether second booster shots are necessary for younger adults and adolescents.
