The federal government is investing more than $6.2 million over five years to support provincial programs in Nova Scotia that assist crime victims.
Federal Justice Minister David Lametti said the funding is especially important for Indigenous victims and survivors of sexual assault who face barriers to accessing justice.
More than $3.5 million will fund a program that helps Indigenous people access the legal system, and a portion of the funds will also be allocated to employ an Indigenous Victim Case Coordinator.
This portion of the funding will also be used to help train staff who manage programs for crime victims. The remaining amount, $2.68 million, will fund an initiative that helps sexual assault victims achieve their rights within the framework of the law.
