Belgium defeated Canada 1-0 (first half 1-0), in the match held between them this evening at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Group F of the 22nd FIFA World Cup finals hosted by Qatar until next December 18.
Real Madrid's Spanish goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois denied Canada from opening the score in the ninth minute from a penalty awarded by Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe after resorting to VAR, as he succeeded in saving the ground shot by Canadian Alfonso Davies, Bayern Munich's German attacker. This was the second missed penalty in the tournament, after the first by Polish Robert Lewandowski in the match against Mexico.
Contrary to the course of play, Belgium advanced in the 44th minute with a goal scored by Fenerbahçe Turkish attacker Michy Batshuayi with a rocket shot to the right of Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan after receiving a long ball.
The second half witnessed reciprocal attacks by the players of both teams with Canadian insistence on equalizing, but goalkeeper Courtois stood firm and handled all the shots from the Canadian players.
