The Libyan government, appointed by the House of Representatives, has called on the international community to participate in the events of the "Reconstruction of Derna" conference and the cities and areas affected by flooding in eastern Libya, scheduled to be held on the tenth of October next.
Today, the Libyan News Agency reported that the invitation came in response to the desire of the people of Derna city and all the affected cities and areas who demanded that the reconstruction process be under the supervision and execution of international companies capable of achieving the highest modern standards of safety and security.
The Libyan government urged participants in the conference to provide modern and rapid visions for the reconstruction of the city and the affected cities and areas in eastern Libya, including the rebuilding of roads and dams that protect the cities and areas from any natural disasters, noting that it has taken all necessary steps within its available capabilities to address the devastating consequences resulting from the disaster of floods and torrents, which led to a large number of casualties and unprecedented destruction in the infrastructure of Derna city and the neighboring areas.
Unprecedented torrents and floods have struck the eastern region of Libya, resulting in thousands of victims and the destruction of buildings and properties, and the Libyan authorities have declared all municipalities affected by the floods and torrents as disaster areas.
