The Libyan government announced that an agreement has been reached for a ceasefire in the capital, Tripoli, after clashes between two factions that left 27 dead and dozens injured.
A spokesperson for the Libyan unity government stated that a ceasefire agreement has been reached in Tripoli. Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, the Prime Minister, arrived at the clash area in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, following earlier statements made on Tuesday, in which he called for the interior minister and the chief of staff of the army to intervene to resolve the clashes and impose security in the capital.
Sources from the Libyan Red Crescent reported that their teams evacuated more than 480 families from the clash areas in Tripoli.
Mohamed Hamouda, the spokesperson for the National Unity Government in Libya, stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah agreed with the "notables of Souq Al Jumaa" in the capital, Tripoli, to hand over the commander of the 444th Brigade, Mahmoud Hamza, to a neutral party. However, a source from the 444th Brigade stated: "We reject the agreement to hand over the brigade commander to another party, and we demand his immediate release."
Later, other sources confirmed that the Deterrence Agency handed over Mahmoud Hamza to the "Support and Stability Agency" led by Abdul Ghani Al-Kakli, while clashes continue south of the capital between the 444th Brigade and the Deterrence Agency.
Earlier, the head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, had called on the General Staff and security agencies to cease fire.
According to what was conveyed by the Libyan Fawasel platform, Al-Menfi directed the General Staff and security agencies "not to move and to comply with orders and the necessity of stopping the fire," and also ordered the Minister of Defense to form a committee to investigate the ongoing events in Tripoli.
