A person was killed following a fire at a center for asylum seekers in the town of Nördlingen, located 120 kilometers east of Stuttgart in the state of Bavaria in southern Germany, according to the police.
Three other people sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious, according to a police spokesperson on Sunday evening.
The police statement said the cause of the fire is still unclear and investigations are ongoing. The police spokesperson said the accommodation is no longer habitable.
Firefighting teams continued to extinguish the fire on Sunday evening. Nearly fifty residents were temporarily housed in a hall. The district administration said it is preparing alternative accommodations. The extent of the damage is not yet known.
