Jordanian King Abdullah II emphasized the necessity of stopping Israeli attacks and unilateral measures in Jerusalem, which affect the freedom of worshippers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque "the Noble Sanctuary" and prevent them from practicing their religious rituals, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
During his reception of the United Arab List delegation in the Knesset, headed by MP Dr. Mansour Abbas, today Tuesday, the Jordanian monarch stressed that the Kingdom will continue its historical and religious role in protecting and caring for the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, based on the Hashemite custodianship over them.
King Abdullah II warned of the danger of the continuation of the war on Gaza and the hostile actions carried out by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
He renewed the affirmation of the necessity to exert maximum efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and to protect innocent civilians.
King Abdullah II indicated that Jordan continues to deliver humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the people in the Gaza Strip by all available means.
Jordan also reiterated its categorical rejection of attempts to displace Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and of any attempts to separate them, considering them extensions of one Palestinian state.
King Abdullah II pointed to the importance of continuing to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to fulfill its role according to its UN mandate.
He reaffirmed that the only way to restore security and stability in the region is through launching a political process to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Jordanian monarch appreciated the positions of the United Arab List supporting peace efforts and finding a political horizon for the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution, and its important role in representing and conveying the Arab voice.
The delegation included MPs Walid Taha, Walid Hawashla, Iman Khatib Yassin, and Yasser Hajirat.
The meeting was attended, according to the Royal Court statement, by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and the King's Office Director, Dr. Jafar Hassan.
