The Mizaan Online website, affiliated with the Iranian judiciary, reported that the authorities carried out today, Monday, the second execution related to the ongoing protest movement in the country for about three months.
The site mentioned that "Majid Reza Rahnavard was publicly executed in the city of Mashhad," in the northeast of the country, after being convicted of killing two security forces members.
The agency also clarified that the death sentence was issued against Rahnavard "on November 29 after he killed two security forces members with a bladed weapon, and caused injuries to four others."
Last Thursday, the Iranian authorities executed Mohsen Shekari, who was convicted of injuring a Basij forces member. The announcement of the execution sparked wide international condemnation.
Human rights organizations warned on Sunday that many Iranians are at risk of imminent execution, as part of the wave of protests that Iran considers "riots," and says that its foreign adversaries are encouraging it.
Also, the Iranian judiciary announced the sentencing of 11 people to death so far in connection with the protests, but activists say that about 12 others face charges that could lead to the death penalty.
Amnesty International said that Iranian authorities are seeking to execute at least 21 people in what it described as "show trials aimed at intimidating participants in the popular uprising that shook Iran."
In the same context, protests have been shaking Iran for about three months following the death of the young woman Mahsa Amini, after she was stopped by the morality police for allegedly violating the strict dress code imposed on women in the Islamic Republic. At least 14,000 people have been arrested in connection with the demonstrations, according to the United Nations.
