Honda is recalling nearly 1.2 million vehicles in the United States because the rearview camera image may not appear on the dashboard screen. The recall includes some 2018 to 2023 Odyssey minivans, as well as 2019 to 2022 Pilot SUVs, and 2019 to 2023 Passport SUVs.
Honda said in a statement released today, Friday, that U.S. safety regulators confirmed the issue is due to a fault in the coaxial cable connector. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that if the rearview camera image is not displayed, it can reduce the driver's visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
The company clarified that it received nearly 274,000 warranty claims from May 2017 until June 8, confirming that it has no reports of any injuries, and that dealers will replace the cable harness and install a calendar cover at no cost to owners, who will be notified by a letter starting July 24.
