The Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo called during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly for the recognition that much of Europe and America’s wealth was amassed from the blood of Africans, urging for reparations for the slave trade to address what he described as "historical injustice."
The Ghanaian president said, "It is time to frankly acknowledge that much of Europe and the United States' wealth was gathered from our toil."
Akufo-Addo also added that building confident and prosperous communities in countries that have been plundered for their natural resources and exploited as commodities "has not been easy."
The Ghanaian president emphasized that he does not seek to shift the blame for the current problems facing Africa onto others, but he called for recognition that these current economic and social conditions are linked to historical injustice.
