The French authorities evacuated the Palace of Versailles today, Tuesday, after a new bomb threat, and reports indicated that the palace will remain closed throughout the day.

This was stated in a post published by the Versailles Palace account on the X platform, "For security reasons, the Palace of Versailles is evacuating visitors and closing its doors today."

French television station "BFM" reported that police sources said a team of explosives experts was on its way to the location.

The palace was evacuated of visitors and staff last Saturday, October 14, as was the Louvre Museum and a train station in Paris, after warnings of bombs in those locations that later turned out to be false.

France has been on high security alert since last Friday, October 13, following a stabbing incident that resulted in the death of a teacher by a young man who authorities suspect to be a radical.

Additionally, Paris announced yesterday, Monday, its intention to accelerate the expulsion of foreigners whom the French authorities consider to be extremists, as well as its intention to tighten immigration laws, at a time when the French government faces sharp criticism from the right following the stabbing incident.

The attack that killed a 20-year-old French teacher led the government to declare a state of maximum security alert in the country and deploy thousands of soldiers.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said after a government security meeting yesterday, Monday, that "authorities will audit the lists of individuals who pose security risks, will expel those who can be sent outside France, and will revoke residency or protection permits usually granted to asylum seekers considered a danger to the country's security."
