The federal government announced the launch of new funding amounting to 99 million dollars, as a government contribution to solve the rental crisis, cover costs, and also 5 million dollars to investigate the rise in food and grocery prices.

Kristina Freeland, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, announced in this regard that the new funding is a step among Canadian economic steps, which was confirmed by the Minister of Industry, Innovation, and Science François-Philippe Champagne.

Freeland added that this funding is a necessary step in the lives of Canadians suffering from rising rental costs; as housing costs represent the biggest challenge for Canadians currently, and this allocated amount in this file will provide support to tenants.

She also pointed to the recent 100 million dollar cost for emergency winter funding to provide assistance to around 85 communities to offer more shelter places for the homeless.

She reported that this funding will be important in supporting shelters to resume full operations and provide essential services especially during the winter season.

She added that the Canadian government seeks to address the rise in grocery prices by working on tripling the annual funding to reach 5 million dollars for the Canadian contribution program for consumer and volunteer organizations.

She mentioned that the funding will help support housing for Canadians to reach 325 million dollars during 2023-2024.
