Star Mohamed Salah led his national team Egypt, this Sunday evening, to surpass Morocco with two goals to one in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations held in Cameroon.

The Egyptian team, which turned its defeat into a deserved victory, set up a fiery revenge match with the host team Cameroon in the semi-finals, especially since Cameroon had beaten them in the 2017 final.

Egypt repeated itself as a barrier to the Moroccan team in the quarter-finals of the tournament, after defeating them in the 2017 edition held at the time in Gabon with a single goal, noting that this is the seventh match between the two teams in the Africa Cup of Nations, and they share three wins each after tonight's match.

The referee awarded the Moroccan team a penalty at an early time, specifically in the fifth minute after reviewing the VAR technology, after the Egyptian player Ayman Ashraf fouled the star of Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain Frenchman Achraf Hakimi inside the penalty box, which Sofiane Boufal easily converted into a goal against goalkeeper Mohamed Abu Gabal.

The Egyptian team reacted to this sudden goal, imposed its control over the atmosphere of the first half, and had many chances to score, but the brilliance of the Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou deprived them of that, the most dangerous of which was Ayman Ashraf’s rocket shot in the 27th minute, and the half ended with Morocco leading by one goal.

Similar to the first half, Egypt scored the equalizer early in the 53rd minute after a corner kick crossed by Omar Marmoush reached his teammate Mohamed Abdel Monem, who shot it and the goalkeeper Bounou saved it, and it returned to the unchecked Liverpool star Mohamed Salah who easily placed it in the Moroccan net.

Morocco’s performance improved after this goal, and they were better in some minutes, but no chances from either team resulted in a goal, and the half ended in a one-one draw, leading to two extra periods.

Mohamed Hassan Trezeguet scored in the 100th minute the second goal for Egypt after star Mohamed Salah dribbled past Morocco's defense and passed the ball beyond goalkeeper Bounou reaching Trezeguet who deposited it in the net.
