The Egyptian city of Al-Alamein is hosting today, Sunday, the Conference of the General Secretaries of Palestinian factions at the invitation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, with the participation of active factions in the Palestinian scene.

During their meeting, Palestinian factions are expected to discuss ways to end the division, address the challenges facing the Palestinian cause, and agree on a unified national and political vision to confront the occupation.

Egypt's hosting of the Palestinian factions’ meeting comes based on an invitation from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, affirming Egypt's central and historical role in supporting the unity of the Palestinian people in the face of the challenges confronting the Palestinian cause.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received yesterday evening, Saturday, at his residence in the new city of Al-Alamein, a delegation from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine participating in the Conference of General Secretaries of the factions, led by Deputy Secretary General Jamil Mazhar.

During the meeting, President Abbas emphasized the necessity of making every effort to ensure the success of the General Secretaries' meeting and achieving national unity to confront the crimes committed by the occupation against our people, lands, and sanctities, stressing that the significant challenges facing the Palestinian cause, aimed at liquidating our national project, require all Palestinians to unify behind the Palestine Liberation Organization, the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people.

For its part, the delegation from the Popular Front confirmed its strong desire to achieve national unity, as it is a major interest for the Palestinian people and their just cause.

President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Al-Alamein on Saturday for an official visit, during which he will meet with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and chair the meeting of the General Secretaries of the Palestinian factions.

Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo Diab اللوح stated that the purpose of the President's visit is to consult and embody ongoing cooperation with President Sisi and to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, along with multiple issues at the Arab, regional, and international levels.

In the same context, Chairman of the Palestinian National Council Rouhi Fattouh stated during an interview with Egyptian television that the meeting of the Palestinian factions to address the conditions will affirm that the Palestinian people have the right to popular resistance against the Israeli aggression and to confront it to stop the Israeli encroachment on the Palestinian people.

He added that, based on the strength of international legitimacy decisions, we must move within the international community to promote justice for the Palestinian people and achieve national rights, noting that there are bilateral discussions among the factions prior to the meeting to reach a comprehensive formula and issue a statement that outlines future tasks and understandings among the political forces and Palestinian factions.

He continued, "We hope that the participants will reach a comprehensive Palestinian program and vision, as dangers threaten the Palestinian people. We are all facing an unprecedented and extraordinary attack under the current Israeli right-wing government, despite suffering for 75 years from this occupation. There are rapid steps being taken by the Israeli occupation government that require us to abandon all contentious issues and reach an agreement."

The Secretary-General of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front and member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Ahmad Majdalani, confirmed that Egypt has always been the warm embrace and protective wall for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people since the Nakba until now.

Majdalani added that the meeting of the General Secretaries of the Palestinian factions will be of great and exceptional importance due to the difficult and complex political circumstances surrounding the Palestinian cause in light of declining international interest and the emergence of new international priorities, the most important of which is the international conflict that focuses on the transition from a unipolar system to a multipolar system and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

He continued that the Palestinian cause is a fundamental component of national culture in Egypt, and there is no party or political movement that does not have the Palestinian cause at the top of its agenda, as is the case with the political leadership in Egypt. The Palestinian cause is a basic component of the Egyptian state's strategy and an essential part of Egyptian national security. Thus, the Palestinian issue is not a temporary topic in Egyptian politics.

For its part, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, described the meeting of the Palestinian factions hosted by Egypt as an opportunity to unify the national stance.

The movement stated that Hamas is committed to dialogue opportunities with all parties to unify the national position in favor of the Palestinian cause, indicating that the true goal of establishing the movement is its ability to confront the occupation forces and the violence committed against civilians within our country and its camps. Thus, we see this summit as a significant opportunity for the success of the General Secretaries' meeting.

Hamas continued that it will do everything possible to ensure the holding of the Palestinian factions summit in Egypt and to succeed in the national plan against the occupation forces, calling for the release of all imprisoned politicians, describing this as a national sin and a moral crime.
