Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he is ready to repeal the legislation that made the teachers' strike illegal if their union is willing to stop their collective strike.
Ford said in a press conference on Monday morning, "Our government is ready to repeal the legislation, as a goodwill gesture, and ready to repeal Section 33, but only if CUPE agrees to show a similar goodwill gesture by stopping their strike and allowing our children to return to their classrooms."
He added that he is extending this "olive branch" to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) as an invitation to return to the negotiating table.
