Meta's chairman and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, that the company will cut an additional 10,000 jobs, following an initial wave that included the layoff of 11,000 employees in early November last year.
Zuckerberg said in a statement that the giant company headquartered in Menlo Park, California, will eliminate five thousand current vacant positions, which will no longer be filled.
This announcement confirms what American media outlets reported about the company's intention to lay off thousands of workers.
Zuckerberg also called 2023 the "Year of Efficiency at Meta," and the company informed its employees of this through performance reviews, which were completed last week, according to Bloomberg.
