As people begin planning their trips again, Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe has decided to dedicate a space for passports in a local library.
Saturday morning was busy at the New Sudbury Public Library on Lasalle Boulevard where people lined up to renew their passport applications.
Lapointe told CTV News that she decided to host the event after receiving many calls from people in the area who have questions about their passports. There are some people who need help. They have questions, they are unsure, there are parts of the forms they just need clarified.
While her staff said it doesn’t speed up the processing of the application, having it reviewed by an informed person can help avoid common mistakes that cause delays or refusals.
Lapointe said, "Some have emergency travel plans, and others are not planning to travel until next year but want to renew their passports now."
She added that due to high demand, there are plans to allocate an additional space for passports in the fall. Residents can contact the MP's office to book an individual appointment for assistance.
