Booming oil production in Alberta

Daily crude oil production in Alberta increased in 2022 amid rising demand and a high price environment, according to economic experts.

Between January and June of this year, 3.6 million barrels per day were produced, an increase of 100,000 barrels from 3.5 million barrels per day for the same period in 2021, according to ATB's deputy chief economist Rob Roach.

Roach said, "Alberta is doing its part in trying to bring more oil to the market.

Roach said, "And also to take advantage of the high prices out there." So far, the oil field has produced 654 million barrels, a record number."

He added that some of the increase in production can be attributed to the high price environment, while other long-term projects coming into production are also factors.

Roach said, "The effect is multiplied from there and is generally positive. More activity, more jobs, and that's good for Alberta's economy."

"On the other side of that, energy prices, not just oil, are rising, and that affects us in our pocketbooks, utility bills, and at the gas pump.

But overall, more energy production and higher prices are a boost to Alberta's economy.
