Two climate protesters jumped onto the field during the soccer match between Canada and Curaçao in Vancouver on Thursday night.
The activists stood naked in front of the goal, which led to the match being disrupted for several minutes before security and police intervened and removed them from the field.
The activists wrote on their bodies the phrase "1022 days remaining". The message was a clear reference to David King, former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK government, who warned that "the next few years will determine humanity's future."
The protesters are supporters of Save Old Growth, an anti-logging group that has been behind a number of protests that attracted attention in British Columbia, including two hunger strikes earlier this year.
A 37-year-old activist said in a statement provided by the Save Old Growth website: "We are boycotting this match only so that people clearly hear this message - our days are numbered." "We have only 1022 days left before irreversible climate collapse."
According to the group, the protesters tried to glue themselves to the goalposts. Many supporters have also joined hands on busy highways across the Lower Mainland of the province in recent months in an attempt to gain more protection for old-growth forests.
