The United Kingdom is preparing to start imposing fees on visitors from Canada, the United States, Australia, and Europe to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in 2024.
The electronic pre-approval program, announced last month, is scheduled to be launched soon.
Canadian citizens will also be required to provide basic information and pay a fee to enter Britain, and the fees, which have not yet been announced, may range from $7 to more than $20.
The UK government also said the new rules will enhance border security.
Applicants will need to enter biometric details and answer a set of questions, and the authorization will remain valid for two years.
The first people to use the system will be visitors to the UK from Qatar, who can apply for the ETA starting from October 2023.
Applications can also be made online, and anyone holding a British or Irish passport will not need to apply for the authorization.
