The Canadian Dairy Commission has approved the increase in milk prices for the second time this year.
Crown, which oversees the dairy supply management system in Canada, said milk prices will rise by about two cents per liter, 2.5 percent, on Tuesday, September 1.
The increase comes after milk prices rose six cents per liter, nearly 8.4 percent, on February 1.
The decision follows a request from Dairy Farmers of Canada in May to raise milk prices mid-year due to rising inflation.
The industry lobby group said farmers are facing unprecedented increases in the prices of goods and services they need to produce milk.
The commission said in a memo to stakeholders, including processors, retailers, and restaurants, that the increase in milk prices will partially offset the rising production costs due to inflation.
