Canada is experiencing a state of great concern due to the emergence of bird flu cases among cattle in the United States, fearing the spread of the disease to cattle herds in Canada.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency urged veterinarians to monitor signs of bird flu in cows, following recent discoveries of the disease in American cattle herds.
While bird flu has not yet been detected in dairy cows or other livestock in Canada, U.S. officials confirmed the presence of infected cases among dairy cattle in nine states since last March.
Officials stated that wild birds might be the cause of transmitting the virus to livestock, and symptoms in livestock appear to be less severe compared to birds, with infected cattle often recovering from the disease within two weeks, and no reported fatalities due to the virus.
CFIA urged veterinarians and livestock producers to monitor and watch for symptoms of the disease, which are primarily characterized by a sudden decrease in milk production or changes in milk density.
