The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the Israeli army's bombing of a "UNIFIL" site in southern Lebanon as a "concerning and unacceptable" matter, calling on all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law.

The Ministry said in a statement published on the "X" platform on Thursday: "The Israeli Defense Forces firing at UNIFIL peacekeepers and medical personnel in Lebanon is concerning and unacceptable."

The statement added: "Canada reaffirms its full support for UNIFIL and its vital role in contributing to a diplomatic resolution in line with Security Council Resolution 1701, and Canada calls for the protection of peacekeepers and humanitarian workers, urging all parties to comply with international humanitarian law."

Earlier on Thursday, a source in the international peacekeeping forces "UNIFIL" announced that two soldiers from the international forces were lightly injured due to an Israeli bombing of a "UNIFIL" site in southern Lebanon.

A source at the United Nations reported that Israeli forces fired at 3 UNIFIL positions in southern Lebanon.
The observation tower at the "UNIFIL" main center in Ras Naqoura was targeted in the Israeli strike.

UNIFIL reminded the Israeli army and all active parties of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property and to respect the sanctity of UN buildings at all times.

It emphasized that "UNIFIL peacekeepers are present in southern Lebanon to support the return to stability under the Security Council mandate, and any deliberate attack on peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701."

Days ago, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, expressed his "deep concern regarding the recent activities of the Israeli army near a UNIFIL member in Lebanon," stressing that "it is unacceptable to jeopardize the safety of UN peacekeepers operating under a mandate from the Security Council."
