The Canadian national team put a foot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after defeating its host El Salvador 2-0, while the United States and Mexico teams, in turn, came close to booking their tickets to the finals by winning consecutively against Honduras 3-0 and Panama 1-0 in the 11th round of the decisive third round of CONCACAF qualifiers.
Canada is close to joining the train of teams qualified for the football event in Qatar, 36 years after its first participation in the 1986 Mexico World Cup. The Canadian team achieved its seventh victory in the final round of CONCACAF qualifiers (North America, Central America, and the Caribbean) against El Salvador, topping the combined group with 25 points, ahead by 4 points of the American and Mexican teams in the second and third positions, respectively.
