Amid an atmosphere of joy and celebration, the Moroccan community residing in Canada celebrated yesterday, Saturday, the twenty-third anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI ascending the throne of his benevolent ancestors, in the presence of many Moroccan and foreign personalities.
In a speech during this event organized by the “Atlas Media” group, Morocco's ambassador to Canada, Souiriya Othmani, said that Throne Day represents for all Moroccans, including the expatriate community, “an unparalleled opportunity to highlight the strong and lasting bonds based on deep love, respect, and affection that the Moroccan people hold for His Majesty the King and the Kingdom of Morocco.”
She emphasized that the King always surrounds his Moroccan subjects living abroad with his special care, pointing out that Moroccans around the world seize every opportunity “to express their close connection to His Majesty the King.”
Othmani also highlighted the firm attachment to Moroccan identity and values, which are “values that we take pride in and share with our friends in Quebec and Canada, reflected in openness, friendliness, hospitality, peace, love, respect for others, and the joy of life.”
In this context, she noted that the celebration of Throne Day coincides this year with the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and cooperation between Morocco and Canada, adding that this celebration also represents an “excellent” opportunity for reunion, exchange, and social integration.
This celebration was marked by the participation of regional and federal deputies, mayors of Montreal, members of city councils, and members of the Arab and African communities residing in the province of Quebec.
In celebration of this symbolic event, the Moroccan flag was raised to the sound of the national anthem in Ottawa, Laval in Quebec, Fredericton in New Brunswick, Winnipeg in Manitoba, and Edmonton in Alberta, in the presence of the honorary consuls of the Kingdom in each of these provinces, including the Consul General of Morocco in Montreal, Mohamed Afriqin.
