Canada is pushing to expel Russia from the International Monetary Fund and the Group of Twenty, which consists of 20 countries working on economic issues.
Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland told reporters in Washington during World Bank meetings in the US capital that Russia is a "firestarter" currently among a group of firefighters.
She added that the group consists of "firefighters" trying to protect the global economy, but Russia is a firestarter, and it should not have been allowed to attend International Monetary Fund meetings.
Freeland, who is of Ukrainian descent, emphasized that there is one big step to eliminate disturbances in the global economy, which is for Russia to leave Ukraine immediately.
