The health authorities in China announced today, Sunday, that the country recorded the highest daily rate of new COVID-19 infections in almost 6 months, with about 4610 new cases reported in the past twenty-four hours, including 588 symptomatic cases and 4022 asymptomatic cases, the highest number since May 6th.
At the same time, China recorded no new deaths from COVID-19 in the past twenty-four hours, keeping the total death toll at 5226 cases.
It is worth noting that the spokesperson for the National Health Commission of China confirmed during a previous press conference that the country will continue its approach in following the zero-COVID strategy and dynamic clearing to eliminate COVID infections as soon as they appear.
The Chinese official added that precautionary measures must be implemented more precisely, meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people, especially since the zero-COVID strategy to contain the virus in the country is still capable of controlling the virus, despite the high transmissibility of variants and infection from asymptomatic carriers.
