Toronto police investigators said two people died after a boat capsized during the night in Lake Ontario near Tommy Thompson Park.
According to the statement, emergency crews responded after a boat heading northeast in the harbor area collided with a rocky island not far from Ashbridges Bay around 12:30 a.m.
Officers said the boat completely capsized, prompting Toronto police and marine infantry units to respond and begin searching for survivors.
Eight people were eventually pulled from the water, but the statement said crews were informed that two others could not be found.
After the boat was lifted from the water, a 25-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were found dead inside the boat.
Meanwhile, as the investigation continues, anyone with additional information is asked to contact the police at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477.
