Three people were arrested after the killing of a child on Monday in Bois-des Filion, on the North Shore of Montreal.

David Provencher, a spokesperson for the Terrebonne police, said the Criminal Investigation Office is currently interviewing individuals and the crime scene is still under examination. He added that if any or all of them are charged, they will appear before the Laval court on Tuesday afternoon. The case has been transferred to the provincial police.

Divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were also deployed to conduct searches in the Mille-Îles River in an attempt to identify any potential evidence.

Provencher said, "We are trying to find anything that can be linked to this case."

This comes after the Joint Municipal Police Service in Terrebonne / Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines / Bois-des-Filion was informed on Monday evening about a "child suffering from serious injuries" in a house located on 34th Street.

The force indicated that "despite the efforts made, the child was declared dead immediately."

The cause of death and the age of the child have not been disclosed, but the police acknowledged that the child was very young.

The police did not mention the relationship between the three arrested individuals and the child, nor did they mention who was in the house at the time of death.

The grieving neighbors were dropping toys and teddy bears at a temporary memorial outside the house, where one of them told CTV News that they saw the child's mother sitting in the passenger seat of the family car on Monday night crying.

Investigators and forensic technicians at both the local and regional levels remain at the scene to analyze the circumstances that led to the child's death.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police at 450-471-4121 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-711-1800.
