The economic data released today, Thursday, by the United States Bureau of Statistics indicated that the final reading of the GDP growth rate came positive and exceeded market expectations, as the US economy recorded growth at a rate of only 2.6% during the third quarter of this year. It was expected that the US economy would record growth of 2.7% during that period, after the previous reading recorded growth of 3.2% during the third quarter of last year.
At the same time, the final reading of the GDP price index during the same period recorded an increase of 3.9%, in line with market expectations which indicated an increase of about 3.9%, after the previous reading of the index had recorded an increase of 4.4% during the third quarter of this year.
It is worth mentioning that this index measures the annual change in the inflation-adjusted monetary value of all goods and services produced by the economy during a specific period on a quarterly basis. It is the broadest measure of economic activity and a key indicator of economic health, and its rise beyond expectations gives more confidence in the economy's ability to recover and positively affects the dollar index, which measures its performance against a basket consisting of six major currencies.
