Night sweats are considered a common symptom that most people may experience, especially in the summer or when having the flu, for example, but seeing a doctor becomes necessary if there is no clear reason for the recurrence of the condition.
Night sweats can also be a sign of something serious, including a type of blood cancer called myeloma, which is a cancer of a type of blood cells that affect the immune system, bones, and kidneys.
Treatments for myeloma have improved significantly in the past two decades, where more than half of patients live for at least five years after diagnosis, according to Cancer Research UK.
Examinations usually start with blood and urine tests and chest X-rays, and further tests may be required in the hospital, such as MRI scans or bone biopsies.
If sweating is accompanied by weight loss, it becomes concerning, as these symptoms indicate cancers, lymphoma, or even bacterial infection.
Symptoms of myeloma:
Bone pain.
Weakness and fatigue.
Weight loss and loss of appetite.
Frequent infections.
Weakness or numbness in the arms and legs.
