Did you know that standing for 3 to 4 hours daily is physically equivalent to running 10 marathons annually?! This is what one research concluded in its endeavor to explore the harms of sitting and its effect on the body, and how this effect differs from the impact of standing on the body.

Medical research continues to warn of the numerous health damages caused by prolonged sitting, as it contributes to increasing the chances of developing many diseases. A British study recommended that employees stand for no less than two hours a day to reduce the possibility of developing health disorders, according to what was published in the medical journal "British Journal of Sports Medicine".

The study also noted that prolonged sitting raises the chances of developing cancer, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and many pains such as back, neck, and muscle pains.

A study published by the British newspaper "Daily Mail", supervised by Dr. Mike Loosemore, a sports medicine consultant, revealed that standing for 3 to 4 hours a day has benefits equivalent to running 10 marathons annually.

The study confirmed that standing for this duration daily helps in the long term to reduce the risks of diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer, lowers cholesterol levels, and assists in weight loss.

An American study also revealed that every additional hour of sitting increases the chance of heart disease by 15%, emphasizing the importance of reducing sitting hours, whether the person exercises or not.
