Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed today, Saturday, the return of Ukrainian prisoners from Russia, including Nariman Jelial, one of the leaders of the Crimean Tatars and a political activist.
Zelensky said in a message via video: "Ten civilians in addition to 90 soldiers were released this week."
He explained that this raises the number of released prisoners who have returned to Ukraine from Russian prisons to 3,310 people.
He added: "We must find all our citizens and bring them back to Ukraine, each one of them in prison or subjected to deportation, adults and children, soldiers and civilians."
Jelial was among the ten civilians who returned yesterday, Friday.
Zelensky had a brief conversation with him today, Saturday. They last met in 2021. It is worth mentioning that Jelial is the coordinator of the Crimean Tatar Council, the elected governing body representing the indigenous Muslim population in the Crimean Peninsula, which numbers around 250,000.
