Canadian rival star Andre De Grasse withdrew from the 200-meter race at the World Athletics Championships, the event in which he won the Olympic gold medal last summer in Tokyo.
The 27-year-old player from Markham, Ontario, tested positive for COVID-19 less than a month ago.
The 200-meter qualifying competitions were scheduled to take place on Monday evening. Athletics Canada confirmed his withdrawal.
De Grasse, who has not competed in races since June 18, failed to qualify for the 100-meter final at Hayward Field, recording 10.21 in the semifinal.
De Grasse, a six-time Olympic medalist, said he would continue to run in the men's 4 × 100 meter relay.
Canada won the silver medal in the relay at the Tokyo Olympics.
Before Saturday, De Grasse had won a medal in every individual race he competed in at both the World Championships and the Olympics.
