Broad Italian solidarity with Morocco in the face of the devastating earthquake

The Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to King of Morocco Mohammed VI, expressed his condolences to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck several cities in the kingdom and claimed the lives of more than two thousand people.

Mattarella said: The news of the earthquake that hit Morocco has caused great sorrow among all Italians and personally within myself.

He added: In this very painful circumstance that the friendly Moroccan people are experiencing, I would like to convey to you and the government and all families who have lost their loved ones, Italy's deep condolences and my sympathy.”

He continued: “We are close to you with genuine feelings of solidarity and we wish the injured a full recovery, ready to contribute to the complex rescue operations,” according to the Italian website “Decode 39”.

For her part, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her closeness and solidarity with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, as well as with the families of the victims and the Moroccan people.

Meloni expressed Italy's full readiness to support Morocco in this emergency situation, according to a statement from the Italian Palazzo Chigi (government headquarters).

 
For his part, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that there are about 500 Italians in Morocco and they are in good condition.

Tajani added, in his statements: To our knowledge, there are no Italians among the victims or the injured and everything is going in the right direction, confirming that the crisis unit at the Foreign Ministry, the embassy in Rabat, and the consulate in Casablanca are responding to all phone calls.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmundo Cirelli, also confirmed that Italian international cooperation is ready to play its role in providing full support for humanitarian aid and civil protection.

For his part, Italian Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara expressed his solidarity with the Moroccan people, adding: I think of the families of the victims and the injured and the 200 Italians present in the area affected by the horrific earthquake.

Italian Minister of Civil Protection Nello Musumeci also expressed his closeness to the Moroccan people in this tragic moment, emphasizing readiness to provide Italian contributions in terms of human resources and means.

Walter Rizzetto, Chairman of the Labor Committee in the Italian Parliament from the Brothers of Italy party, also expressed his “solidarity and closeness” to the Moroccan people following the devastating earthquake.

Rizzetto said: “In these complex and tragic circumstances, my thoughts go to the earthquake victims and their families. I am close to the Moroccan communities living in Italy, and during these hours they are worried about their relatives.”

For his part, the leader of the Italian 5 Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, expressed on social networks the group's closeness to the Moroccan people in this tragic moment of suffering and destruction.

Conte said: “We are confident that Italy, the European Union, and the entire international community will offer their solidarity contribution to help a whole nation overcome this great pain.”
