Hundreds of thousands of students and pupils across Toronto will be out of the classroom on Friday as education staff walk off the job. As a result, parents and guardians may be wondering about activities available for their children on the first day of the strike.

CTV News Toronto has committed to a shortlist of options for families looking to keep their kids busy during the strike, some offering fully supervised programs:

• Royal Ontario Museum:

The ROM offers a supervised day camp for children aged 5 to 10, where it told CTV News Toronto: "This full-day program for kids will provide age-appropriate programming and hands-on interactive activities as well as a chance to explore the museum’s fantastic exhibits of art, culture and nature." Pre-registration is required for the camp and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Prices will be $85 per child per day and $77 for ROM members, with extended care available at an additional cost. The camp will also start at 8 a.m. and you can register online.

• Art Gallery of Ontario:

While AGO is not offering any extra programs, families can sign up for the free virtual school program at the gallery for children between junior kindergarten and Grade 8. The program is offered in sessions starting at 9:30 a.m. and is open to all parents, guardians, and teachers across the province. Also, free worksheets are available for download on the AGO website and kids only need a pencil and a piece of paper to participate. The gallery will also be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for in-person visits.

• Ontario Science Centre:

The Ontario Science Centre is not offering special programming on Friday but will be open for regular visits between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., where a spokesperson told CTV News Toronto: "As always, our hosts are happy to welcome families ready to explore hundreds of hands-on learning experiences including our newest exhibit Indigenous Creativity: An Interactive Adventure, which showcases how Indigenous innovations helped shape our world." Tickets will be $22 for adults and $13 for children.

• Toronto Zoo:

The Toronto Zoo told CTV News Toronto it created a day program on short notice, but spots filled "almost immediately." A spokesperson said in a statement: "We will continue to monitor the progress of the potential strike next week, and if we can put some programs together later in the week (depending on staffing levels), we will share details as soon as they are available." However, the zoo will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for parents looking to visit with their children. Tickets are $22.20 for adults, $13.50 for children aged 3 to 12, and free for younger children.

• Legoland Toronto:

The Legoland Discovery Centre remains open for parents and guardians looking to accompany their children to the attraction north of Toronto. A spokesperson for Legoland said in an email that Legoland will operate at full capacity on Friday and will include educational workshops aligned with the current Ontario school curriculum. At least one adult will need to accompany children for entry and tickets start at $26.99. Legoland opens at 11 a.m. on Friday and closes at 8 p.m.
