Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, a video on his Twitter account of a collective Ramadan Iftar he had with members of the Muslim community in his party, inside his official private meeting room.

Trudeau accompanied the video with the saying: "This room is usually used for meetings, but the Muslim caucus members used it tonight for Iftar and to celebrate the month of Ramadan."

He concluded his message by extending wishes "to everyone who does the same with their family and friends. We wish you a happy and blessed time. Ramadan Mubarak."

In turn, Canadian Transport Minister of Syrian origin, Omar Alghabra, shared Trudeau’s video and attached it with the phrase: "Tonight, the Prime Minister joined our gathering as Muslims at an Iftar event inside the Parliament building."

Alghabra added saying: "It is a blessing that in Canada we live with dignity and celebrate all traditions. I hope Ramadan brings peace and fulfillment to everyone."

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, known for his sympathy towards Muslims, always makes sure to share in the celebrations of the Muslims of his country on their religious occasions such as Ramadan and the two Eids.

It is noted that the number of Muslims living in Canada is estimated at about one million and 153 thousand Muslims, which constitutes 3.2% of the total population.

Last year, Trudeau congratulated Muslims on Ramadan in a statement, saying: "During Ramadan, while fasting during the day, many Canadian Muslims remain on the front lines in our battle against COVID-19, and during these exceptional times, I urge all Canadians to acknowledge the many contributions that Islamic communities have made to our country since the beginning of the pandemic, as they have done over many generations."

He added: "As we continue to follow public health guidelines to keep each other and our communities safe, Canadian Muslims are turning to virtual ways to meet and enjoy Iftar meals with family and friends, and many also take this time to reflect on the values of gratitude, mercy, and generosity at the heart of Islam, and these values — shared by many Canadians of all backgrounds — are essential to building a safer, healthier, and stronger country for all."
