Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada's upcoming strategy will include new investments to enhance the role of the Canadian Armed Forces in the region.

Trudeau also visited Thailand to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, which was disrupted after North Korea launched a ballistic missile that fell near Japanese waters.

The United States called for an impromptu meeting with leaders of Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, hosted by U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, where Trudeau told his five colleagues that Canada will continue its role in a United Nations mission to monitor sanctions on North Korea.

Speaking to reporters, the Prime Minister described North Korea's latest move as "reckless" and said it must not continue.

Also, before setting Trudeau aside to discuss North Korea's move with other leaders, it was announced that Ottawa will spend $13.5 million to launch a team in Canada and Asia to form partnerships in the energy sector.
