The credit is attributed to the "coordinated efforts" of emergency responders who saved the life of a worker trapped in a collapsed trench late Monday afternoon in Oakville.
The incident occurred just before 5 p.m., after the commencement of "building a large new house" on West Lake Road at Morden Road, located west of Dorval Drive, where according to Oakville Fire Chief Paul Boisonault, the man fell into the trench, which then collapsed, burying him under several feet of soil.
Boisonault also said afterward that he requested assistance from the Trench Technical Rescue Team of Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, which "carefully secured the area around the worker, and an air vacuum truck helped remove some of the soil."
The worker was also removed from the trench after about three and a half hours from the arrival of emergency responders to the scene and was transported to the hospital for monitoring. Boisonault said his injuries were not serious, adding, "All emergency personnel on site performed very well and the worker was transported safely."
Likewise, the Ministry of Labour in Ontario is still investigating the matter.
