The Secretary-General of the Palestinian People's Party, Ahmad Majdalani, confirmed that the formation of the committee of the general secretaries of the Palestinian factions, called for by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the end of the "Alamein Meeting" yesterday, will be through consensus, and that the good preparations for inviting this committee began following the meeting by working on the agenda and the issues to be discussed.

Majdalani emphasized, in a press statement today, Monday, the importance of the meeting of the general secretaries of the Palestinian factions, which was hosted by Egypt, and came in light of an unprecedented Israeli escalation targeting Palestinian cities and villages.

He continued, "The meeting also came amidst the practical implementation of the plan by the extreme Israeli minister, Bezalel Smotrich, which has become an official policy of the Israeli government, which believes that the time has come to shift from managing the conflict with the Palestinians to decisively resolving the conflict by undermining the Palestinian National Authority."

Majdalani stressed that the Palestine Liberation Organization is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and it is essential to abide by it, its political program, and all its international commitments, and international legitimacy resolutions, which opened the way for international recognition of our people's right to self-determination on its land.

The new city of Alamein hosted the proceedings of the meeting of the general secretaries of the Palestinian factions, where Palestinian developments and ways to restore national unity and end the division were discussed, amidst the significant challenges facing the Palestinian cause. At the end of the meeting, President Mahmoud Abbas called for the formation of a committee from the general secretaries of the Palestinian factions to continue the dialogue on the various issues and files that were discussed at the "Alamein Meeting" with the aim of ending the division and achieving Palestinian national unity.

The Palestinian president said, in the presidential statement he delivered at the end of the "meeting," "I call on this committee to immediately commence its mission and return to us with agreements it reaches, and I hope to hold a meeting soon for the factions in Cairo to announce to our people the end of the division and the restoration of Palestinian national unity. Today's meeting is a crucial first step to continue the dialogue, which I hope will achieve the desired objectives soon."
