The CEO and founder of the Web Summit, Paddy Cosgrave, resigned from his position yesterday, Saturday, after his comments on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in which he indirectly criticized Tel Aviv.
Reuters reported that "the CEO and founder of the Web Summit, Paddy Cosgrave, resigned on Saturday." Cosgrave stated that his comments began to distract attention from the conference in Portugal, scheduled for next month, and he offered his apologies.
The spokesperson for the Web Summit also stated that the conference in Portugal will be held as planned and that a new CEO will be appointed "as soon as possible."
The founder of the world's largest tech conference wrote on social media on October 13 that he was "shocked by the expressions and actions of many Western leaders and governments" regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He added, "War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies."
Reuters also noted that, following this statement, some tech companies and investors refused to participate in the conference.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip is facing Israeli bombardment from land, sea, and air since the launch of Hamas and other Palestinian factions' operation "Al-Aqsa Flood" on October 7.
The "Al-Aqsa Flood" was met with the Israeli operation "Iron Swords," where the Israeli army is conducting airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which is home to more than two million Palestinians suffering from deteriorating living conditions due to a continuous Israeli blockade since 2006.
The death toll from Israeli bombardment has reached approximately 4,475 dead and more than 14,000 injured in the sector.
On the Israeli side, more than 1,400 people have been killed, including 306 officers and soldiers, while Hamas has captured more than 200 Israelis.
