The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of reports of a Canadian's death amid an attack on Israel by Hamas, with two others missing.
In an update shared on Sunday afternoon, the agency stated that Canadian officials in Israel are in contact with local authorities in an attempt to confirm those reports and gather more information.
The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that there are currently 1,419 Canadians registered in Israel and 492 in the Palestinian territories, but it warned that this registration is voluntary and provides an incomplete picture of Canadians abroad.
As of Sunday, the Canadian foreign ministry said it has responded to 429 inquiries since the beginning of the conflict regarding travel advice and guidance for Israel and Gaza, airport status and flights, the overall security situation, and options for leaving the country.
The Canadian foreign ministry urges Canadians on the ground in Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip to shelter in place and limit their movements, and to monitor local media for the latest information.
Also due to the crisis in Israel, the government has warned that operations at the land border with Jordan may be affected.
