A new study revealed that there is a relationship between the intake of certain medications for treating insomnia and the accumulation of proteins that cause Alzheimer's disease, indicating that these medications reduce their deposition rates.
Although there are still many unknowns for researchers regarding Alzheimer's disease, the relationship between the progression of the disease and lack of sleep has become a focal point for researchers, according to the website "Science Alert".
The site noted that researchers found that taking insomnia pills to fall asleep reduces the rates of deposition of proteins that cause Alzheimer's disease.
The site states that researchers at the University of Washington found that taking those pills contributed to reducing those proteins, which led them to link sleep rates to the levels of Alzheimer's incidence.
Researchers say that sleep disorders may serve as early warning signs for developing Alzheimer's, in addition to other symptoms that appear later, the most notable of which are memory loss and a decline in awareness.
According to the study, the role of insomnia treatment can give the human brain the ability to resist the accumulation of harmful proteins in a way that makes it more capable of retaining awareness and protecting memory.
