The criminal trial for "Freedom Convoy" organizer Pat King is set to resume today as the defense begins its arguments.
King was a prominent figure in the convoy that occupied downtown Ottawa for over three weeks in 2022 in a massive protest against public health restrictions related to COVID-19, vaccine mandates, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
King has pleaded not guilty to charges of causing harm, advising others to protest, obstructing police work, and other offenses related to his role in the three-week demonstration.
When his trial began in May, the Crown stated that King was a vocal leader in the protest and had an influence on the crowds as they blocked streets and sounded air horns throughout the day and night.
The Crown is primarily relying on King's videos, which he posted on social media throughout the protest to document the demonstration and communicate with the protesters.
King's lawyer, Natasha Calvinho, is expected to call her first witness today.
