The Spanish National Police in Madrid seized 11 gold pieces worth more than 60 million euros related to Ukraine's historical heritage.
This was stated in a press release from the Spanish Security Agency, indicating that the seizure operation took place in collaboration with the Ukrainian Security Agency.
The statement added that 5 people were detained, 3 of whom are Spanish nationals and two others are Ukrainian nationals, noting that a "criminal network that was smuggling cultural heritage from Ukraine" was dismantled.
It was also clarified that during the operation, jewelry "of significant historical and economic value" was seized, which had been stolen and smuggled from Ukraine to be sold in Madrid. The gold jewelry was accompanied by documents in different languages to "confirm its affiliation with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church."
